Everyone knows the nominee is going to be Romney

The sensible and acerbic Ann Coulter has issued an affectionate slap across the face of the conservative faithful:
"The mainstream media keep pushing alternatives to Mitt Romney not only because they are terrified of running against him, but also because they want to keep Republicans fighting, allowing Democrats to get a four-month jump on us.

Meanwhile, everyone knows the nominee is going to be Romney."
I'm not so sure, Annie.

First off, no one's voted yet. Second, Romney puts our collective feet to sleep. I'm sure he will make a fine president, but let's not bear down just yet for the Romnification of America. Any one of those candidates running for president would be a much better choice than the one we have now. You know it, and I know it. Let the big dogs run awhile. No need to rush forward into what you may live to regret, and for the rest of your life.

Loretta: "Twice I took the name of the Lord in vain, once I slept with the brother of my fiancee, and once I bounced a check at the liquor store, but that was really an accident."

Priest: "Then it's not a sin. But... what was that second thing you said, Loretta?"

  1. Something's bugged me about this whole Republican debate process--the first time in history it's been done this way. It seems like something that has been cooked up in some Journolist online circle jerk sesssion. First of all, there's too many of them and it leads me to wonder why the networks have been so generous. Could it be that they want people to get sick of the whole process by overexposure? Get sick of the candidates themselves and the Republican "brand" in general? When a candidate falters at a single debate, they wind up having less time to present their ideas in the next--time is allocated by a flurry of spot polls. In between the Media gets to kick around all the contenders in the print and electronic media. All the debates are moderated by the hostile and partisan staff of the networks who might as well by on the Democratic Party payroll--if they aren't already. Candidates wind up debating the moderators as much as the other candidates or get thrown off their game not responding in kind to the loaded questions and spin. And if any contender gripes about any of this they will get kicked around with "We give you free exposure and you're complaining?" Voters meanwhile get sick of everything and everybody. Democrats get to sit back and laugh at the spectacle, out of range from the tomatoes.

I don't seem to recall all the Democrat candidates getting "vetted" at similar debates moderated by Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, and Mark Levin four years ago. Why is that? How do you think President Teleprompter would have done in a dozen debates where the questions weren't known in advance and the moderators weren't drawing hearts on their notes? Would the viewers ever want to see him again after that much exposure?

Don't answer. I know as well as you do. Sigh. Ann Coulter is just calling the race, she never said she liked Romney.
