Rahm Emanuel Effort to Run Chicago Thwarted by Law

In a town rife with political insider moves and control held by a single party for as long as can be remembered, Rahm Emanuel, the heir apparent of the Daley family to take over control of the Second City has been rejected as a candidate for the 2012 Chicago mayoral race.
"Rahm Emanuel was thrown off the ballot for mayor of Chicago Monday by an Illinois appellate court panel, according to the Cook County Appellate Court's office.

The panel ruled 2-1 that Emanuel did not meet the residency standard to run for the city's top office.

"A candidate must meet not only the Election Code's voter residency standard, but also must have actually resided within the municipality for one year prior to the election, a qualification that the candidate unquestionably does not satisfy," the court stated in the decision."
It is a shock to find a Democrat political insider like Emanuel can't get a court ruling to swing his way in Chicago.
"Emanuel is expected to appeal the decision to the Illinois Supreme Court, and a federal appeal could follow."
No kidding.

  1. Don't worry. We stack our Supreme Court with wives of Aldermen and such. After Daley lost that Olympic bid that would have given access to all those unaccountable Federal dollars to get him out of the hole he dug, Obama must have sent the word to step down for Emanuel--or those dollars will never materialize. Right now, they are paving the way for future mischief--like getting one of the more Left-wing TV stations to keep airing hit pieces on Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas--someone that's known for not playing ball with political operatives, not giving real estate tax breaks so that big shots can give political donations instead. They have big stuff on her--using couple hundred dollars in discretionary funds to buy cold cuts and soda pop for an office Christmas party. Of course they don't mention that her predecessors spent ten of thousands for formal parties at posh hotels. You should see the camera angles and cutting, lacking only ominous music, when she says "Do you know what "discretionary" means?" Yes, they party while taxpayers suffer.

Rahm will be on the ballot. The SCOI will rule that he was in Washington serving his country. Can we afford to lose our "best and brightest" due to a technicality? I think not. Tee hee.
