Blog favorite Thomas Sowell has written many a fine column. Of late he has been watching in dismay as this nation has taken wrong turn after wrong turn, all the more frustrating because of the difficulty we now have in criticising this particular president. Well, Dr. Sowell in no way finds himself constrained, and his most recent column points out the folly of our ways:
"One of the ideas that has proved to be almost impervious to evidence is the idea that wise and far-sighted people need to take control and plan economic and social policies so that there will be a rational and just order, rather than chaos resulting from things being allowed to take their own course."
Right on.
In light of the abject failure of the communist control economies, the blatant dysfunction of the Britain's National Health Service, and the absolute Tom Foolery of FDR's government stimulus plans, one would think a nation that selects its leaders would have to be insane to go down the path we are on. Reading the likes of ponce, SP0101 and others, I believe a case could be made. Through this murk comes our hero, Dr. Sowell:
"The education and intellects of the elites may lead them to have more sweeping presumptions, but that just makes them more dangerous to the freedom, as well as the well-being, of the people as a whole."
Damn straight.
